  • Pregnant women cancels gym membership, confused and now fined with debt collection

I post this for a women I know who when discovering her pregnancy canceled her gym membership...She was told that is fine and her account will just be put on hold,frozen...She did not realise she still had to make the monthly payments and when a letter demanding payment arrived she ignored it thinking it was a mistake as her account was frozen...Anyway, now the baby is born (21days old) she has now recieved a demand for £320 from a debt collector...her gym membership was £25 a month and she had only been a member for 3 months before getting pregnant and made 3 payments...This i feel is partly her fault for not chasing up the demands for payment when first recieved ,even tho she thought her account was completely frozen...What I cannot believe is that a Gym can do this to a pregnant women/new mother...Also she wants to start going again to this gym soon ,as soon as baby goes onto bottles , but with this issue of unfairness and to me bully boy tactics, she will go else where and end up with a bad credit rating as she is adament that they will not recieve any money as she was told her account is frozen.

Please help as this issue must affect many women who become pregnant and go to a gym....What can she do? and can she tell the debt collection co to do one?

Did she get confirmation in writing that her account was frozen/put on hold??

If she got a letter, then she can tell the DCA that the debt is disputed and put a formal complaint in with the gym concerned. Tell her to keep everything in writing and send letters recorded/signed for (costs less than £2) as proof of sending and receipt :tinysmile_twink_t2:
