Should I go straight to the police?
I can't quite clearly see the number plate but i can clearly see the company on the van....

    advice please .

I think this comes under section 70 RTA 1988 ?

Depends on circumstances if it is worth while or not

How much damage was caused to your vehicle?
Will you be making a claim on your insurance?
Would the driver of said lorry known he had hit you? (if he didn't realise the collision had occurred he has a defence to any charge)

On balance it probably is worth reporting.
The police will at least identify the lorry, owner and their insurers and probably pass those details to you.
This could save you the trouble of writing directly to the company whose logo is on the lorry, and trying to get the info from them.

On the other hand you could write directly to the company, explain what you have and hold them responsible for the damage, and then see how they react.
Or, if you have comprehensive insurance, you could claim on your own insurance.

I think i will go to the police and get it reported, it does look like he knew, because he slammed on the brakes.

In that case keep the original CCTV footage and give police a copy.
It's not unknown for items to be lost, and it's a good idea to keep a back up

The Dutch companies insurers will have English agents usually another insurer (often Zurich) which will make it easier for your insurers to deal with

Some years ago this happened to me although it was the big spare wheel on the back of a range rover that hit my vehicle. I had two independent witnesses and sent a claim to my insurers stating that they must claim against the third party's insurance so as not to affect my no-claims. The insurers did nothing so I threatened to sue them in the court. That made them move and they took the third party to court. He was told he must pay but refused to do so. I complained and the bailiffs took his car and sold it. He was furious but I won in the end.

He was lucky to get away with leaving the scene, a criminal matter.

This is quite an old thread, and we are now discussing a point which is a bit academic as the OP hasn't been back.
To claim that the Dutch insurers will most probably have appointed the Zurich as their agents is a bit of a guess as we don't know who the Dutch insurers are.
Is the insurer Delta LLoyd or Aviva or Allianz or Fortis or another Dutch insurer? Why should any of these appoint Zurich as their agents when they have their UK counterparts already?

There is a mandatory requirement in the EU for motor insurers to appoint claims representatives in every EU country (Fourth Motor Directive 2000/26/EC.)
However if you are involved in an accident involving a foreign insured vehicle and carry comprehensive insurance yourself the way forward with the least hassle is to claim on your own insurance and let them deal with it.
