  • Motor mile finance nightmare

Hi I am new here so I hope I am posting in the correct place.

Thank you for a very useful website.

I would appreviate some help with motormile who have registered a default on my credit file ruining my credit rating which had been gradually improving over the past year.

I've been told a DCA can't register a default they can only update an existing one and continue to report, to clarify - I have been subscribed to all 3 credit ref gencies and have been monitoring my credit accounts and making sure entries are correct for the past year and there has been nothing outstanding to them or to any other creditor that I have not dealt with and have not already settled or have an arrangement with. I have one other default due to drop off my file next week. I had problems after a relationship breakdown but I am finally back on my feet or so I thought.

Motormile were harassing me earlier in the year at a very stressful time in my life. I thought I had finally seen the back of them as they went quiet but suddenly they slap this default on my credit file.

Can anyone help please. I can provide further details if needed. I have corresponded via email with them and complained to their compliance dept.

    Hi and welcome

You are correct when you say a DCA can only update a CRA record to reflect the change of owner but not record a fresh default. However, they seem to ignore the guidance all the time. :mad2:

Do you know what debt MMF are chasing you for? If so, how long ago did you default on it?

More details would certainly help. :typing:

      Re: Motor mile finance nightmare

They are saying that I defaulted in July 2011 on a payday loan to Northway Swift Sterling.

I started receiving emails from them in January 2014 simply saying 'please contact MMF ' with a phone number. No details , no name given, not even an email footer , company logo nothing. I googled the phone number and discovered they were Motormile , a DCA.

I replied to the email asking them to supply details as to what they wanted and confirm who they wanted to contact as there was no name given. I had no response other than further emails threatening home visits or asking me to call their 'home visits team' and another which stated they were preparing to register a default with all 3 CRA's. At this point I still didn't know if they had the right person or what this alleged debt was. After several emails to their general inbox I finally had a reply stating I owed £687 to Northway Swift Sterling. They then started ringing my work switchboard several times a day with automated messages so I wrote to them and requested written correspondence only and stated I would not make an appointment with their doorstep agent and would report them for trespassing/harassment if they ignored my request. The calls continued.

The final straw was when they rang and left messages on the work voicemail (disclosing my name and who they were)which get forwarded to the a directors mobiles. The message stated they were sending an agent to my work. I got called into the office to ask if I was in any trouble and it was very embarrassing. I then rang motormile , pretended to be someone else and asked that they stop ringing the number as it was a business number. The calls did stop. I emailed them and said I wished to make a complaint to their compliance department , I received a reply from 'pat' in 'customer relations who said in order to progress my complaint I needed to reply with my full address, name and d.o.b to prove my email address was secure. I said I wasn't supplying this information as they hadn't been bothered about security when emailing me nor when phoning my work and still hadn't proved that I owe this money to swift sterling. That was in May and I haven't received a response to date and noticed recently their website has changed and their email address has also changed to customerservices@mmile.com from the ascent@mmile.com.

I have never received anything in writing from motormile and have received no default notice or pre default notice just their email in which they say they will register defaults if I don't make contact.

I am registered with all 3 Credit ref agencies as I wanted to make sure my details were correct and try and improve my credit rating. I had some fully settled accounts that hadn't been updated as settled and closed and had to get the info updated. I had 2 defaults on my credit file - one due to drop off this month (which I am paying each month) and one due to drop off next year (which is fully paid) so next year I hoped make a fresh start.last week I had an alert to say there had been a change to my credit reports and logged in to discover a default from motormile dated July 2011 added to my credit file 1 July 2014 updated again 13th July 2014 and the balance has increased by £50. They haven't yet made any contact with me but they don't have my current address or mobile number only my work number. I've contacted experian and they have sent the usual , that they are contacting motormile for permission to remove the default and have added a temporary notice of correction. No doubt motormile will refuse to remove the default.
