  • Bus Lane Penalty Charge Notice

    Hi all,

I received a bus lane penalty charge notice in the post today although i am hoping i can appeal it.

The charge is £60 - £30 if paid within 14 days, which i will happily pay if i am 100% in the wrong, however i cannot appeal this without it going to £60 (so it states on the letter).

There is photographic evidence of me entering the bus lane just before it stops in order to turn left, at which point i am joining a queue in traffic to turn left (also in the bus lane).

I entered the bus lane as the lane going straight ahead was clear and i would have restricted traffic flow going forward if i went next to the end of the bus lane and stopped, indicated and waited to turn left until the bus lane was clear, at which point i would then have been able to drive straight on and turn left at the roundabout about 10 meters ahead.

It all sounds rather complicated here so please ask questions if you are unsure and think you may be able to shed some light on this.

I would like to pay this within the 14 days to stop the fine going up, however, i think it is rather unfair to charge in this instance.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Do you drive a public omnibus?

    No?

Then pay up whilst it's still only £30.

I agree. Pay up. There's always a good reason - yours is as good as any. But it doesn't change the fact that you did it, and that's the pertinent fact here.

One must wonder what sort of advice he'd expected to get.

Should we have told him that, as a Free Moron On Land, he does not need to contract with the local authority?

But you could have challenged it - on the grounds that, even with a following wind and a downhill gradient, your motor-car couldn't exceed 90mph without the engine falling out.

It's a pity they don't also have cameras arranged along the sides to photograph the other road users being barged out of the way by a 'bus driver who thinks he's on the dodgems.

                        Turbs,

It showed how certain councils (especially Reading) have put cameras up at spots where drivers cannot avoid 'bus lane only' bits of road so get ticketted and showed where a bus lane was indicated from 7 till 9 but a couple of yards furthur up showed it from 7 till 7
It also revealed some internal emails between ticket office staff congratulating themselves on brilliant ticketing. Was quite an eye opener.

One might wonder if Councillor Tony Page will have to fight his seat on the council against a more driver-friendly candidate.

                          I hope he loses.
