Hi all,
Im actually asking this for my sister, who is single parent, through no fault of her own, blah blah blah, long story, but this is about her electricity supplier. She rents a house from a local estate agent and has been there for the last three years. There is a prepayment meter with the property and she pays up front for all her electric etc. She has just changed over from N power to Eon and has received a final bill from N Power stating she owes £97.00 for the pre payment meter. Apparently about 8 months ago, they changed the old prepayment meter to a new style one, of which my sister wasnt actually even aware of because she still pays up front for her electric via prepayment meter. So the fact they changed to a new style meter was their doing, and not requested by her at any point. They are now trying to bill her for having changed over the old prepayment meter to this new style one. She thinks they are billing her purely because shes moved energy supplier a month ago.
A) In law can they do this ? Can they charge her for the new style pre payment meter installation a few months ago.
B) If they can, why would it be so much.
She cant pay it. She has volunteered a payment of £30 followed by payments of £2 a week and N power have refused her saying they will send in a debt collector which will add further cost to the £97 she owes, and possibly then instruct court which will add further cost. She really does live on the bread line, and whilst I could pay it for her and I will if I have to, I wanted to know legally where she stands on this before I do, and if indeed she is even liable for this. Can anybody help who may know this. ??
