My Wife was attacked at work

My wife works in the 6th form of a special needs school as a teaching assistant and one of the students "kicked off". My wife and 2 other female teaching assistants tried to subdue this boy. One of the other assistants has not received the necessary training and it seems that as a result he was able to free his arm and strike my wife as well as pulling her hair violently enough to give her a sore neck.

While this was happening, the male class teacher did absolutely nothing. My wife is OK, but she is now complaining a bit about her neck and wants to get it checked out. Right now I don't know who I want to punch more, the kid who did it or the teacher who did nothing.

In my opinion, my wife's employers have failed in their duty of care towards her and this is not the first time that something similar has happened.

Any suggestions anyone?

Was this reported at the time? This should have been written up and a report submitted to her line manager and to the school principal.

She should have her neck and any other injury thoroughly checked out, plus it might be wise to have photographs of any scratches or bruising.

What training has your wife received that you feel has not been provided to the other TA's?

I do really sympathise with you

My nephew is special needs and in a special school. he gets very disturbed by any changes in routine or change of staff and he has actually been violent- mainly through fear or confusion. He is 18 and very strong and I dont know how the staff cope with him.

On the times when he has lashed out the police have always been called and there have been many meetings. Unfortunately because of rules staff are not supposed to restrain him so he has now learnt what he can get away with.

It is a very sad situation all round.
